Amendments

when I first started filming the opening sequence I realized the screenplay was way too long compared to the length the opening sequence needed to be so before filming we needed to make some major changes to the opening sequence some of these were actually removing much of the cast that was going to be in the opening sequence as me and my partner in this project realized the way it was going the filming was going to take much longer and the length of the opening sequence will be too long so we cut down the cast to one character which is the main character and we stayed on the same storyline however we never showed any other cast members this was good and bad because if we had all the characters in the opening sequence it could have been easy to establish the narrative straight away however it still adds loads of tension to the see as the audience is intrigued to see who are the main character is being chased by we kept many of the subtle details about the scene which was the desert and many of the actions that the main character(john) was doing however we took away aspects like cars driving down the road and interaction with other characters as thew dialoughes we had planeed were extensively long as well as our opening sequence eun time now as the final product is 1 minute and 20 seconds so if we had incoperated all these seprate things like the extra characters and dialougue it would have been much longer and harder to film as we would need to get every one their on time and ready to film.

character profile

Kareem Jarad who will play the main character has been told to play a character with the intent of revenge on his mind as well as pain and regret this is what helps portray the emotions of the characters and mental state within the film. the audience will be able to feed of this emotion and will be able to tell there is a sad story behind this character.

the main character is between 20-30 years old its never fully mentioned in the opening sequence but through appearance and the characters body language you can tell he is still very young he has a basic American/Canadian accent he is from Canadian descent and moves to America for a better life but gets caught up in some bad things.

our main character does some jobs for the mafia to get himself started up when he first moves to America and its good at first he's making a lot of money and making friends out of it too however he can't live with himself knowing he's hurting people to get his money.

so he takes his money and leaves the mafia however he knows too many secrets and is a liability to them so the hunt begins for them to find him and this is where our opening sequence begins with the main character covered in blood fight for his life.

Research findings

some things I will add from my research on tv crime genres and some crime film opening sequences, for example, Luther and Goodfellas

from Goodfellas, we can see clearly the crime genre background straight away as we see henry hill whos family are working-class and don't make a lot of money who sees these wiseguys living the lavish lifestyle and is drawn to it and eventually becomes part of the group himself this tone has previously been set by the godfather.

the background of crime subgenres:

revenge tragedy: this about some family conflict or some disruptive event with the protagonist and the antagonist that gets someone killed and they come back for revenge this links to my opening sequence as my character's plot is based off revenge

the great detective: in early crime genres the story would follow the main protagonist around from the beginning to end this would be to try and portray to the audience how great the detective is and so the audience gets behind the character one example of this would be sherlock homes.

the golden era: this is when crime genres mainly involved your James bond types the foreign super secret agent who is silent but deadly.

hard-boiled: this was about the loose cannon detectives who would work all by themselves this was around before and after world war 2 these characters types were mostly American going after groups like the mob who no one could touch.

police procedure: this was the classic grime genre with the standard police solving crimes and arresting criminals things like interrogations, forensic scenes, and the legal battles were shown.  this type of subgenre became very popular from the 1950s and onwards due to the real-life feel and technology will only help advance this type of subgenre.
