Audience questionnaire analysis

Audience questionnaire analysis

We asked the people around our school which includes the students and teachers the reason for this is both types of people are in the target audience for our opening sequence so it was the perfect place to get the relevant information. The main findings from my questionnaire is that most of my audience is between the ages of 15-20 years old which is the largest section of my target audience and some are between the ages of 20 to 30 years old. The most popular reason that people answered why they watched the opening sequences was because of the hook of the story this is good because it means the audience likes to be gripped from the beginning about what's going to happen in the film as well as the other conventions that the audience said kept them watching were enigma codes and the genre of the film this is a very interesting finding as these are some of the main conventions I intend to use in my opening sequence as enigma codes are used to challenge whether an audience is active or passive this is why i would like to use them heavily in the opening sequence. The most helpful questions i found out to be were the types of characters they like. We specifically asked an open question so we could get an accurate description of the characters they would like to see. Furthermore, another question that I wanted to see the answers for was what makes the audience keep watching the film. The reason for this is so I understand what grips the audience and how i can start to incorporate them into the opening sequence so they're more interested in the opening sequence. One the question results that shocked me a lot was the locations the audience had chosen the most popular ones will be the ones i will most likely do my research into to see if they are suitable for the type of genre and look at other types of movies in the crime and action genre to see if any have used similar locations and what the effect on the audience has been if it has brought more tension to the opening sequence and if it is keeping the audience gripped into watching the opening sequence.

Forms response chart. Question title: How old are you?. Number of responses: 21 responses.

The first question we asked was ‘how old are you’ the reason we asked this question was to help get an understanding of the typical audience that we will have when watching the opening sequence we found out that the most popular age of people that answered our questionnaire was 15-20 this is good as our target market is between the age of 15-35 so our most popular group is the audience we want to appeal to the most. The other most popular age group is 21-26-year-olds. This also shows that our second most popular age group is also in our target audience.
Forms response chart. Question title: What is your gender? . Number of responses: 21 responses.

The second question we asked in the questionnaire was ‘what is your gender’ the reason we asked this question was to understand what the main gender was in the questionnaire was as this would help to identify if we were appealing to our target audience. We were able to find out that the main people who answered the questionnaire were males which is the main gender for our target audience which is key to understanding what they want in the opening sequence we also found out there was a small number of women who took the survey who said they liked the genre of our opening sequence this shows that they're our secondary target audience.

Forms response chart. Question title: What genre of film do you prefer?. Number of responses: 21 responses.

The third question we asked in our questionnaire was ‘what type of film genre do you prefer’ the question was asked so we could understand what the main types of genres liked and also to see if the people we were asking liked the genre of our opening sequence which was crime and action we found out that these two types were very popular amongst the people who took the interview. There was also some other choices that were very popular like horror and comedy this is good information as this can help us incorporate these types of the genre into the film so it can appeal to many more audiences

Forms response chart. Question title: What conventions do you like to see ?. Number of responses: 21 responses.

The fourth question we asked the audience was ‘what conventions do you like to see’ our main aim in asking this question was to find out what type of conventions we should include in our opening sequence, all should be included but we wanted to know what were the main ones people liked so we could add more scenes using them.

Forms response chart. Question title: What makes you keep watching the film?. Number of responses: 21 responses.

The next question we asked was ‘what keeps you watching the film’ we wanted to see what the viewers were interested in when they were watching a movie so we can get the audience gripped right from the beginning with our opening sequence. One of the most popular results was the characters this means the audience likes to see a variety of interesting characters in an opening sequence to keep them hooked, so for us this will help us incorporate many different variations of characters into an opening sequence so we can appeal to all types of people as we know there are many different character types which we found out from one of our other questions which was ‘what types of characters do you like to see’ where we got a wide variety of responses so this will also help us to put these into the opening sequence so we can entice them for more

Forms response chart. Question title: What kind of locations would you like to see in an action/crime genre movie?. Number of responses: 21 responses.
Forms response chart. Question title: How important do you think a soundtrack is for an action movie? . Number of responses: 21 responses.

The final important questions we asked them were ‘what kind of locations would you like to see’ and ‘How important do you think a soundtrack is for an action movie’ these are very important questions as they both help determine how important the audience opinion is. The locations would need to appeal to the audience so they would be interested and tense within the first few scenes of the opening scene. The question about the sound-track is an important aspect of the film as its ways of getting people to pay attention and to help change the moods of the audience. The reason we put many options for locations was so the audience had had a wide variety of choices and so they were able to understand the type of genre associated with these locations. The most popular locations would be the prime locations for filming as this would grip the audience even more. The most popular location was the desert. The reason for this being is probably the eerie setting behind the vast and unknown terrain which is why it's the perfect setting for a crime/action film.
